Handcrafted Turquoise Blue Ceramic & Silver Clay Necklace - Faience or Egyptian Paste

This 2 1/2-in x 2 1/2-in pendant is in the form of a sand dollar shell.
The turquoise blue pendant is made from Faience or Egyptian Paste.

Faience is an ancient form of clay items found in King Tut's tomb were
made from Faience. The unique property of this clay is that the glaze is
included in the clay and it comes to the surface when fired.

When I first read about this clay I was fascinated by it. I searched all the
local pottery stores and suppliers and I finally found one owner that was
willing to order it for me.

I found working with Faience a bit of a challenge when the designs require
all smooth surfaces. The clay tends to adhere to the supports used when
firing it.

The pendant is embellished with fine Silver Clay (.999). The 24-in black
satin cord has two oxidized Silver Clay (.999) beads. The necklace has a
silver plate lobster clasp.
